Note from Kenn Holsten

Greetings and happy spring! I hope this email finds you and your families well and enjoying the change in seasons. This month I have gathered some outstanding pieces to share with you by some of my favorite glass artists. I hope you enjoy this month’s issue of Holsten Galleries News and look forward to being in touch.

New Lino Film

I’m pleased to announce an exciting new film on Maestro Lino Tagliapietra. Sono Lino goes beyond previous films, documentaries and books in exploring the life and work of the greatest glassblower of all time. If you live in the Seattle area you can view it on the large screen and if not you can stream it later in May. Here is the link: https://www.siff.net/festival/sono-lino

Featured Works

Kookaburra
by Lino Tagliapietra

This exuberant piece by the Maestro is from a relatively unknown series titled "Kookaburra." I was excited to find it available in Lino’s archives and have added it to my inventory.

Kookaburra by Lino Tagliapietra, 14.5 x 19.75 x 24"

Santa Ana Cloud by Nancy Callan, 9 x 13 x 17.5″

Santa Ana Cloud
by Nancy Callan

Former Lino team member Nancy Callan has certainly become an outstanding glass artist in her own right over the 20 years or so that we have worked together. This new example ("hot off the press" according to Nancy) of her "Cloud" series is perhaps the most colorful Callan piece I have ever seen.

Caress
by Latchezar Boyadjiev

I was pleased to add this new cast glass sculpture by California glass artist Latchezar Boyadjiev to my inventory. This piece, as in almost all of his work over the past several years, is abstractly figurative but in a less obvious way than many of his other pieces. I particularly love this warm color.

Caress by Latchezar Boyadjiev
, 4 x 10 x 27"

Of Two Minds by Paul Schwieder, 18 x 10″

Of Two Minds
by Paul Schwieder

As in all of Canadian born Paul Schwieder’s sculptures, the artist starts with a blown form and reduces it through countless hours of cold work, mainly with a sandblaster. I love both the form and the delicate use of negative space on this piece.

Regatta
by Martin Rosol

What a wonderful new piece by Massachusetts glass artist Martin Rosol! I have been privileged to represent Martin for more than forty years and have watched his work become more and more minimalist and refined. I consider this piece to be one of his greatest pieces ever.

Regatta by Martin Rosol
, 3 x 16 x 20"

I hope you have enjoyed viewing this issue of Holsten Galleries New. I certainly enjoy taking time every month to share with you some of the world’s most outstanding glass sculpture.
