Greetings. I hope you and your families are enjoying the spring weather and making plans for the summer ahead. This month I have chosen some outstanding pieces of glass sculpture from some of the artists I represent. I hope you enjoy this issue of Holsten Galleries News and invite you to be in touch with your comments and questions.

Quote of the Month

"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see."

Featured Works

Saba
Nassau

by Lino Tagliapietra

These are two of my favorite pieces in my new 2023 inventory of Lino’s work. I love the painterly quality of both pieces. Each piece demonstrates the artist’s mastery in two diverse techniques, cane work in Saba and murrine in Nassau.

Saba by Lino Tagliapietra
, 26 x 13.5 x 13.5″

Nassau by Lino Tagliapietra, 15 x 15 x 5.25″

Awakening by Harry Pollitt,
20 x 10 x 10″

Awakening
by Harry Pollitt

Local glass artist Harry Pollitt has created an organic and fluid cast sculpture in "Awakening." Harry was formerly a wood sculptor and this piece employs much the same use of negative space as did his previous creations.

Embellish 17
by Laura Murdoch

Murdoch uses ancient simple forms as blank canvases on which to "paint" her patterns on the glass, through sand-carving and other processes, building them one layer at a time through the "graal" process. This is a particularly beautiful example of her jewel-like work.

Embellish 17 by Laura Murdoch, Approx. 33″ tall

Neodymium Steel Lake by Alex Bernstein, 18 x 18 x 5″

Neodymium Steel Lake
by Alex Bernstein

I received this image from Alex just this morning. Because of the type of glass used this piece can look blue in certain types of lighting. Both the form and the color are captivating.

Paradise Droplet

by Nancy Callan

One of Seattle glass artist Nancy Callan’s most beautiful series is her "Droplets." This one, which she calls "Paradise Droplet," is both elegant and whimsical and the combination of colors is spot on.

Thanks, as always, for spending a bit of your day enjoying some works of glass art by some outstanding glass artists. I look forward to staying in touch!
