Note from Kenn Holsten

Greetings. I hope you and your families are enjoying summer. This month I have chosen some remarkable glass sculptures to share with you. I hope you enjoy them and look forward to any questions or comments you may have. Stay well and stay cool!

Quote of the Month

"There are probably no two words more respected and honored in the history of modern sculpture in glass than ‘Lino Tagliapietra’; he is the living bridge, the crucial link between the august history of Venetian glass and the ceaseless wonders of what today we call the modern Studio Glass Movement."

– James Yood
Professor of art history

Featured Works

Mandara
by Lino Tagliapietra

Lino’s well known Mandara series is one of my favorites. This one has it all: a wonderful shape, great colors, complex cane work and surface engraving.

Mandara by Lino Tagliapietra, 18.75 x 16.5 x 6.25″

Artifact Vessel by William Morris, 23 x 17 x 6″

Artifact Vessel
by William Morris

One of William Morris’s best known and sought after series is the Artifact Vessels from the 1990’s. It is rare for one of these pieces to come onto the secondary market. This one is a particularly nice iteration of this iconic series.

Calla
by Martin Rosol

This new glass sculpture by Massachusetts glass artist Martin Rosol is a fairly simple form yet has amazing presence. Just the right amount of color and a different view from every angle. More images upon request.

Calla by Martin Rosol, 13 x 14 x 5″

Lion Mane by Jon Kuhn,
7 x 7 x 7″, 14" high

Lion Mane

by Jon Kuhn

By any measure, this is one of the finest new pieces by Jon Kuhn that I have seen in recent years. A large, central core with a myriad of colors is encased in multiple layers of lead glass. A short video clip of this piece spinning on its metal base is available upon request.

Thanks for taking time to enjoy some outstanding examples of glass art. I look forward to being in touch.
