Greetings! Spring has come early to Santa Fe and our favorite lilac bush is already about to bloom in its exquisite light purple color. Speaking of color, I’m pleased to share some magnificent colorful glass sculptures with you in this edition of Holsten Galleries News. I can’t help but imagine that the Maestro must have been in an exuberant mood on the day that he created this vibrant piece! In addition to its dazzling array of bright colors this piece has a very engaging form.

Tealesque Nexus

As in the majority of glass sculptures by New Hampshire artist Toland Sand, this piece has multiple levels of complexity. One can easily spend considerable time visually exploring one of Toland’s pieces and come back later to the same piece and have a substantially different experience.

Playful, vibrant, dramatic… These are only a few of the adjectives that come to mind in describing this charming piece by late artist Stephen Powell. I can easily imagine this powerful sculpture being the finishing touch in a large, well lit room.

Gesture

Not all, but many of California glass artist Latchezar Boyadjiev’s works are figurative in an understated abstract way. This beautiful example of his work certainly falls into that category.

Midnight Song

What a perfect name for this lyrical piece by North Carolina glass artist, Jon Kuhn. The dramatic color core is enhanced by the beveling of the cube’s edges.
