Holsten Galleries Greetings. I hope you have all enjoyed the summer months and are well. Summer has been a busy time for Holsten Galleries with visits to many artists’ studios and the addition of lots of great new glass art. This month I am featuring new works by Lino Tagliapietra, Dante Marioni and Alex Bernstein. In addition, I want to discuss in some detail Dale Chihuly’s Lithographs. As always, I look forward to your questions and comments! Kira by Lino Tagliapietra Sun Twist by Alex Bernstein Green Mosaic Vase by Dante Marioni Lithographs by Dale Chihuly Chihuly Lithographs are created in different ways, including drawing with tusche (greasy ink) onto stone or metal plates or by painting on sheets of mylar. One plate is required for each color desired in the final artwork. A six-color lithograph is run through the press six separate times. Many of Chihuly’s Lithographs include painted handwork which is done after the printing process. Lithographs with handwork become unique work since the print itself has been directly drawn on. These are further enhanced when Dale signs them in paint. I am including two Chihuly Lithographs with handwork here and many more can be seen on my Chihuly Prints page. “Confetti Blast” is a testament to Chihuly’s passion for color, texture and energy. “Reeds Before” shows a “Basket” with 7 layers of handwork which is revealed behind two colors of “Reeds.” This print refers to two of Dale’s glass series, the “Baskets” and the “Reeds.” Studio Editions by Dale Chihuly
As always, your comments and questions are most welcome! Kenn Holsten
