Nancy Callan Biography
Nancy Callan received her B.F.A. from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1996, where she studied with Dan Dailey and Robin Grebe. After taking a workshop at the Corning Museum with Lino Tagliapietra, Callan moved to Seattle in pursuit of a career in hot glass. For the past ten years she has been a member of Tagliapietra�s glassblowing team, and has travelled throughout the world as his assistant at numerous workshops. In 2001, Callan received the prestigious Creative Glass Center of America Fellowship at Wheaten Village in New Jersey. Callan has exhibited throughout the United States, and is included in many public and private collections, most notably in the personal collections of both Elton John and Lino Tagliapietra, the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York, and the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington.
Influenced by childhood, toys, and comic books, Callan fuses playfulness with a fluency in her medium to produce colorful and exceptionally well-crafted works. She states, "While creating each piece, I try to balance the challenges of hot glass with the sense of wonder and fun I felt the first time I gathered from the furnace. I believe play is essential, not just for the artist, but for everyone."
